1. Pay attention to the sweater washing label
Before washing, you must read the washing label on the clothes. It will tell you the material of the sweater, whether it can be machine washed, hand washed, or whether it can be dried.
2. Machine wash of sweaters
The material composition is not mixed with wool, rabbit hair and other animal fibers, but general cotton or artificial fibers can be thrown into the washing machine for washing.
step1: Turn the sweater over, fold it in half and put it into a laundry bag of suitable size to reduce the chance of pilling and deformation (leave some space after putting it in, do not use a laundry bag that is too large).
step2: Use neutral detergent to avoid damaging the clothing fibers.
step3: Adjust the washing machine setting to soft wash or sweater special wash to increase the life of the sweater. Keep the water temperature below 30 degrees to avoid damaging the fiber and shrinkage (remember not to use high temperature washing).
step4: Try not to use dehydration and avoid using a dryer to cause shrinkage.
3. Hand-washing sweaters
If you are used to hand-washing or the sweaters contain animal fibers, you can actually wash them yourself, but the following steps must not be ignored:
Step 1: Prepare a basin of clean water with a temperature below 30 degrees and mix it with neutral detergent. If there is dirt on the sweater, you can add baking soda to wash it.
Step 2: Wash the sweater by patting it (do not rub it hard, the knitting structure of the sweater will collapse and the clothes will shrink).
Step 3: Wash the sweater for 3-5 minutes, and use both hands to hold the water out from under the sweater. Do not pull it up hard, which may cause deformation.
Step 4: Press the water dry by folding it in half, and do not twist it!
4. How to dry the sweater
Whether it is machine washing or hand washing, it is recommended to use these three methods to dry it after washing:
1) Lay it flat to dry.
2) Use a clothes net.
3) Use two hangers to hang the sweater horizontally on it.
5. Sweater maintenance: pilling & ironing
*Pilling
Usually, wool sweaters are prone to pilling due to their short fibers. In contrast, wool sweaters are less likely to pilling if they contain more synthetic fibers, and coarse knits are more prone to pilling than fine knits. Prevention is better than cure. It is recommended to add baking soda to prevent static electricity when washing and use a laundry bag every time to prevent pilling due to friction.
*Ironing
Generally, sweaters are unlikely to have wrinkles, but if you really need to iron them, use a steam iron and keep a proper distance and adjust the temperature to medium or low.
6. Sweater storage
Do not hang them on hangers to avoid deformation of the sweaters over time. Therefore, folding and placing them in a ventilated and cool place is the best storage method.
